These sample stories reflect how people are feeling in a season where political labels feel louder than our shared humanity. They’re not about taking sides. They’re about the weight we’re all carrying when Democrats and Republicans stop listening and start fighting.
You’ll see a mix of text messages, emails, video reflections, and photo stories.
“I sent a photo of my empty classroom after a long day. My caption said: ‘I’m not okay because my students are learning to talk about politics the way adults do online — with fear and sarcasm, not curiosity and care.’ I see kids repeating talking points they heard at home, and I wish we could model listening instead of labeling.”
“I’m not okay because holidays feel like walking a political tightrope. One side of the family leans Republican, the other leans Democrat, and I spend the whole day trying to keep the peace. I don’t want my kids to grow up thinking the people at the other end of the table are the enemy. I want them to see that loving someone matters more than winning an argument.”
“I’ve lived long enough to remember when neighbors borrowed sugar from each other without asking for a voter registration card first. I’m not okay because I hear people at church talk as if God only loves one party. I believe we can stand for what we believe and still treat each other with respect, but it feels like that muscle has atrophied. I miss simple kindness.”
These are just a few examples of what people are sharing as they wrestle with political division and cultural tension. When you send your own story above, you can choose whether it stays private or, with your permission, becomes part of this chorus reminding others they’re not alone. If you’d like your story removed or updated, please email info@hopenotfearproject.org.
